Job Description

Role Overview

This role drives the bank's small-business (Biashara) strategy within a designated region, blending daily oversight of lending operations with active business development. Day-to-day, you will review loan files for quality, coach branch staff on credit processes and arrears management, and spearhead marketing initiatives to recruit customers, grow deposits, and expand assets. By ensuring consistent execution of policies and fostering partnerships, you directly contribute to the region's profitability and the bank’s market position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily audits of loan originations at branches to identify irregularities, sample disbursed loans for decision quality, and enforce policy compliance among staff.
  • Manage arrears through daily data reviews with branch teams and direct engagement with borrowers in the region to reduce delinquency.
  • Deliver refresher training to branch staff, especially on credit policies and lending procedures, and mentor officers to improve their performance and adherence to standards.
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns (e.g., “storms”) at branch level, follow up on leads generated, and ensure business aggregators and ecosystem partnerships are onboarded and managed end‑to‑end.
  • Lead weekly performance reviews with Biashara Banking officers in the region, identify talent gaps, and recommend staff deployment or development actions.
  • Participate in shaping the Biashara Banking segment strategy, including product development and partnership frameworks, and ensure full implementation at regional level.
  • Act as the bank’s brand ambassador locally, maintaining service levels defined in SLAs and building strong relationships with customers and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal departments (Sector Head, other regional managers) to report business progress and coordinate cross-functional support.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • University degree in a business-related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a Relationship Supervisor specializing in Biashara (small business) Banking.
  • Strong analytical skills and an eye for detail when reviewing loan files and credit decisions.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and train branch teams on lending processes and performance management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with demonstrated conflict resolution capability.
  • Self-driven, able to work under pressure with minimal supervision while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of microfinance best practices and small-business lending operations.
  • Creative and resourceful in identifying business opportunities and closing deals.
  • Leadership presence, team orientation, and flexibility to shift focus as regional priorities change.
