Role Overview
This role centres on steering the full recovery cycle for a portfolio of defaulted and classified loans, with a strong operational focus on repossessing vehicles, motorcycles, and tuk tuks across the country. You will lead in-house recovery teams and external service providers, ensuring every action aligns with internal credit policies, regulatory standards, and ethical repossession practices. Your work directly protects the lender's asset base and improves portfolio performance by converting non-performing exposure into recoverable value.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily logbook loan recovery operations, setting clear targets for recovery rates and portfolio clean-up.
- Manage classified loan accounts from early delinquency through to write-off, deciding on the most effective recovery or restructuring path.
- Coordinate repossession of vehicles, motorbikes, and tuk tuks, including planning asset tracing, field retrieval, and transportation to secure storage.
- Supervise in-house recovery staff and third-party agents, assigning territories, monitoring performance, and providing on-the-ground guidance.
- Verify that all recovery actions comply with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) requirements, collateral realisation rules, and internal legal protocols.
- Negotiate repayment schedules, settlement offers, or voluntary handover arrangements with borrowers to minimise conflict and legal escalation.
- Prepare accurate recovery and performance dashboards for management, highlighting trends, bottlenecks, and areas for process improvement.
- Collaborate with legal counsel on litigation, auction, and sale processes to ensure transparent and timely disposal of repossessed assets.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Banking, or a closely related discipline.
- CCP (Certificate in Credit Profession) or an equivalent professional credit qualification.
- 5–8+ years of hands-on debt recovery experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or team-leading capacity.
- Working knowledge of NTSA regulations, collateral realisation, and the full vehicle repossession lifecycle.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a dispersed recovery team, motivate collectors, and hold external vendors accountable for results.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of resolving complex debtor situations without unnecessary litigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear reports and present findings to senior management.
