Role Overview
The Finance Manager will run Avenews KE’s daily finance operations, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded, cash and loan-portfolio balances are closely monitored, and management receives reliable financial information. The role owns the month-end and year-end close and coordinates the annual statutory audit, helping the business maintain sound controls and meet its reporting and compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and complete monthly and year-end close activities, including cut-off, accruals, prepayments, journals and review of account balances.
- Reconcile loan disbursements, repayments, principal, interest and fees between portfolio records and the general ledger; investigate unidentified transactions, mismatches and possible duplicate entries.
- Allocate customer repayments correctly and resolve unmatched or misposted receipts.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets and cash-flow statements, along with portfolio, liquidity, cost and budget-variance reports.
- Track daily cash positions, prepare rolling cash-flow forecasts, and manage supplier invoices, payments and payroll processing.
- Lead budgeting and periodic forecasting, and complete bank, portfolio and balance-sheet reconciliations covering areas such as payables, receivables, fixed assets and statutory accounts.
- Manage tax and statutory filings and payments, including applicable PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and AHL obligations; ensure supplier and expense documentation meets eTIMS requirements.
- Maintain supporting records, approval trails and controls for payments, disbursements and accounting adjustments; coordinate the annual statutory audit through audit schedules, financial statements and responses to auditor queries.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- At least five years of relevant finance and accounting experience.
- Proven ability to prepare complete financial statements and management reports, and to coordinate a statutory audit through to signed financial statements.
- Strong practical experience in bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll, payments, budgeting and cash-flow management.
- Experience in lending, fintech, banking or microfinance is preferred.
- Advanced Excel capability and confidence using accounting systems.
