Role Overview
This position is responsible for guaranteeing that every stage of building construction aligns precisely with approved designs, contract terms, and statutory standards. On a daily basis, the engineer inspects materials and workmanship, coordinates laboratory and field tests, and enforces quality and safety protocols. The role directly safeguards project quality, prevents costly rework, and upholds the organisation’s reputation for reliable delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive quality assurance and quality control plans for building projects.
- Review and approve Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and all quality documentation submitted by contractors.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits to verify that workmanship and materials meet drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities.
- Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and track corrective and preventive actions until complete closure.
- Ensure full compliance with local building codes, EBK requirements, NCA, OSHA, NEMA, and other applicable regulations.
- Coordinate material testing with external laboratories and field tests on concrete, steel, and other construction inputs.
- Prepare detailed quality reports, inspection registers, and handover documentation for completed project phases.
- Support snagging, commissioning, and defect liability inspections, and liaise with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies on quality-related issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or building engineering from a recognised institution.
- Registered as a Graduate or Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- NCA registration is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in quality assurance and quality control on building construction projects.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems is an advantage.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contract administration is an added benefit.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and MS Project for documentation and planning.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities, including the ability to coordinate across multiple parties.
- High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and collaborate as part of a team.
