Role Overview
This role involves operating heavy plant used in road construction, with a focus on safely handling at least two challenging machine types such as a grader, excavator or road roller. The operator also carries out routine equipment checks and basic upkeep to help keep machinery ready for site work.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate at least two difficult-rating C plant types used in road construction, such as a grader, excavator or roller; quarry-only experience does not meet this requirement.
- Complete pre-operation checks before using plant equipment.
- Grease machinery and carry out minor maintenance tasks.
- Drive the required vehicle or plant using the appropriate licence classes.
- Follow safe operating practices informed by first-aid training and plant-operator suitability requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE mean grade D plain or an equivalent qualification.
- Successful completion of the Plant Operators Grade III suitability test.
- A valid Plant Operator Certificate from NITA or NCA at Trade Test Grade I or II.
- A current driving licence without endorsements for the applicable classes: B, C, E and G.
- Practical ability to operate at least two difficult-rating C plant types used in road construction, including a grader, excavator or roller.
- First-aid training of at least one year from St. John Ambulance, the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIBHT), or another recognised institution.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the Kenya Police.
