Role Overview
You will join a dedicated integration engineering team as the embedded quality assurance specialist, working across multiple client-facing integration projects from design through deployment and maintenance. Your day-to-day focus is safeguarding the end-to-end reliability of synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven integrations by turning vague requirements and acceptance criteria into precise, executable test coverage — then uncovering defects early so they never reach production. This role matters because the team depends on you to be the independent quality conscience who not only finds problems but also pressures the development process into producing fewer of them in the first place.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the test strategy for each integration assignment: analyse incoming requirements and acceptance criteria, spot ambiguities or missing details, and translate them into a clear, risk-based set of test scenarios.
- Design and execute functional, API-level, message-level, integration, and end-to-end tests across synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven communication patterns.
- Support regression and release testing by defining focused regression packs, verifying defect fixes, and confirming that every change is production-ready before sign-off.
- Log defects with precise, reproducible evidence and collaborate closely with developers and technical project leads to ensure fixes are implemented and retested correctly.
- Develop and maintain automated integration tests for repeatable scenarios, integrating them into CI/CD pipelines to provide fast feedback loops.
- Look beyond individual failures to identify recurring or systemic quality weaknesses across the integration landscape, documenting their impact and proposing concrete, practical improvements.
- Communicate quality findings and recommendations directly to technical project leads and senior developers, constructively challenging existing approaches when gaps are identified.
- Build and maintain reusable test standards, templates, checklists, and other shared QA assets that improve consistency across the whole team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- 2–4 years of hands-on QA or software testing experience, preferably focused on integration solutions rather than only UI-level testing.
- Proven ability to design and execute test cases for APIs and message-based integrations, including validating payloads, headers, status codes, and message schemas.
- Experience testing synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven integration flows end-to-end, including error paths, retries, and timeout handling.
- Solid working knowledge of integration technologies and data formats such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and XPath.
- Hands-on proficiency with API testing tools like Postman, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, or equivalent.
- Strong experience supporting structured regression and release testing processes, including coordination with development and delivery stakeholders.
- ISTQB Foundation Level or equivalent QA certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with integration platforms such as SAP Cloud Integration, MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, or Dell Boomi is an advantage.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and embedding automated tests into build and release workflows.
- Basic scripting ability in JavaScript, Python, Groovy, or a similar language for test automation, data preparation, or message manipulation.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to present evidence-based findings clearly and honestly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong sense of ownership — you take responsibility for defining the right test approach rather than passively executing ready-made test cases.
- Analytical and structured problem-solving, with a critical eye for gaps in requirements, acceptance criteria, and integration logic.
- A preventive mindset: you care as much about avoiding defects as you do about catching them.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to raise concerns directly, respectfully, and constructively with senior colleagues.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity and shifting priorities across multiple assignments in parallel.
- A collaborative attitude, willing to share knowledge openly through documentation, templates, and day-to-day teamwork.
