Pharmaceutical Technologist

Role Overview

As a Pharmaceutical Technologist, you will be the operational backbone of day-to-day pharmaceutical services — preparing and dispensing medicines accurately, keeping stock records audit-ready, and making sure the right products reach patients and customers in the right condition. You will work across the counter and behind the scenes, coordinating with suppliers, storage teams, and colleagues to keep supply flowing without compromising regulatory standards. Your attention to detail directly protects public health, supports seamless service delivery, and keeps the organisation fully compliant with Pharmacy and Poisons Board requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medicines in line with legal and professional standards, verifying dosages, labels, and patient instructions before handover.
• Maintain accurate records for controlled and prescription-only medicines, including daily registers, batch tracking, and documentation required by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• Monitor stock levels, conduct regular counts, and flag reorder needs to prevent stockouts or overstocking across fast-moving and specialised product lines.
• Receive, inspect, and store incoming pharmaceutical goods, checking expiry dates, batch numbers, storage conditions, and delivery documentation against orders.
• Operate computerised inventory, point-of-sale, and dispensing systems to process sales, update stock records, and generate reports for management.
• Manage cold-chain and temperature-sensitive items, ensuring proper refrigeration, monitoring, and escalation of any deviations.
• Liaise with suppliers, wholesalers, and internal teams to resolve order discrepancies, returns, and delivery delays efficiently.
• Advise customers and patients on safe medicine use, storage, and basic side effects, referring clinical questions to a pharmacist where required.
• Support quality assurance and compliance audits by keeping the dispensary, storage areas, and documentation inspection-ready at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognised institution.
• Active enrolment with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) — practising licence or enrolment in good standing.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in community pharmacy, pharmaceutical supply chain, or wholesaling environments.
• Strong computer skills, including confidence with inventory management systems, dispensing software, and standard office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication — able to document clearly, explain medicines plainly to customers, and coordinate professionally with suppliers and colleagues.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural team, demonstrating respect, reliability, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Solid understanding of pharmaceutical storage requirements, expiry management, and regulatory record-keeping.
• High level of accuracy, integrity, and accountability when handling medicines and controlled substances.
