Role Overview
As the Pharmaceutical Technologist at Pearl Hospital, you will be the hands-on link between prescribers and patients, turning prescriptions into accurate, well-documented medicine supplies while keeping pharmacy stock reliable and compliant. Your daily work covers dispensing, inventory control, storage, record-keeping and patient guidance, all of which help prevent medication errors and treatment delays. Because Pearl Hospital is a Level 4 multi-specialty facility in Laikipia County, this role directly supports safe, efficient and compassionate care across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Review prescriptions and orders, then prepare and issue medicines and related health commodities accurately and appropriately.
- Raise requisitions for drugs and other pharmacy commodities, following hospital procedures and stock thresholds.
- Receive, arrange and store pharmaceuticals and health-related supplies under suitable conditions, with attention to expiry dates and stock rotation.
- Keep medication, dispensing and stock records current so that usage, balances and regulatory requirements can be traced.
- Monitor inventory levels, participate in stock counts and report shortages, overstocking or near-expiry items to the relevant supervisor.
- Offer patients practical guidance on how to use their medicines, including dosage, timing, storage and adherence.
- Use electronic pharmacy or hospital management systems to enter data, track stock and support accurate reporting.
- Use equipment and supplies economically, and carry out any other duty assigned by pharmacy or hospital management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
- A valid practicing license.
- At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical services.
- Good computer skills, particularly with electronic pharmacy or hospital management systems.
- Working knowledge of safe medicine storage, dispensing, inventory control and medication record-keeping.
- Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills for patient counselling and teamwork.
