Role Overview
As a Pharmaceutical Technologist, you will serve as a frontline point of contact for patients collecting medicines, turning prescriptions into safe and accurately dispensed treatments while working under the guidance of a senior pharmacy officer. The position keeps the dispensary running smoothly day to day by handling everything from prescription intake to labelling, patient education and record-keeping. Your accuracy and attention to detail directly protect patient safety, support regulatory compliance and ensure the pharmacy's stock and records stay reliable.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense drugs and medicines to patients under the supervision of a senior pharmacy officer, following prescribed dosages and instructions.
- Receive, interpret and process prescriptions, clarifying any unclear or incomplete orders before dispensing.
- Record prescriptions accurately in the pharmacy unit's records and registers.
- Pre-pack and repack medicines, and prepare clear, correctly worded instructions on labels.
- Counsel patients on how to use their drugs correctly, including dosage, timing, storage and any precautions.
- Maintain the drug register and other pharmacy books so that all transactions are traceable and up to date.
- Conduct monthly stock-taking of drugs, medicines and medical devices, and report discrepancies or shortages.
- Support proper storage, handling and inventory organisation of medicines within the pharmacy unit.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology or an equivalent qualification approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board from a recognised institution.
- Certificate of Enrolment as a Pharmaceutical Technologist awarded by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
- Certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution.
- Ability to read and interpret prescriptions accurately and to follow dispensing protocols under supervision.
- Strong record-keeping habits, attention to detail and clear communication skills for patient counselling.
