Role Overview
This academic role combines teaching in Public Health with postgraduate supervision, research, and contribution to the university’s academic operations. The postholder helps maintain high standards across programmes by developing curricula and assessments, supporting quality assurance and accreditation, and guiding students and junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate Public Health courses through lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical or skills-based sessions.
- Contribute to the design, development, review, and implementation of curricula, syllabi, and training materials.
- Prepare, administer, and moderate examinations, and take part in internal and external examination moderation.
- Advise and mentor students, support recruitment and orientation, and supervise Master’s and PhD candidates through proposal development, thesis writing, and examination.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research, seek and manage research or health development grants, and share findings through peer-reviewed publications and academic presentations.
- Contribute to quality assurance, audits, and accreditation activities involving programmes, training resources, and practice sites.
- Mentor graduate assistants, tutorial fellows, visiting lecturers, adjunct faculty, and other junior academic staff.
- Support departmental planning and budgeting, serve on university committees, and represent the department in academic, public, and stakeholder forums.
Requirements & Qualifications
- PhD in Public Health, with a specialisation in Health Management, Health Informatics, or Health Economics, or a PhD in a related health discipline from a recognised institution.
- Training in Health Informatics, Health Records, or Health Management.
- At least five years of university teaching experience in Public Health at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, development, and review, as well as postgraduate supervision.
- Evidence of independent or collaborative research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience reviewing postgraduate proposals, theses, or dissertations, and serving on academic committees.
- Knowledge of research methods, research ethics, academic integrity, postgraduate policies, examination procedures, and higher education requirements.
- Experience in quality assurance, curriculum review, or accreditation is an advantage.
- Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
- Strong teaching, assessment, feedback, research, grant-writing, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with ICT, including learning and research management platforms, and the ability to manage competing work and deadlines.
- Professional integrity, sound judgement, collaborative working skills, and a commitment to inclusive, student-centred postgraduate education.
