Role Overview
This academic role combines teaching in public health and related disciplines with curriculum development, student supervision, research, and departmental service. You will help maintain high academic standards across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes while supporting students and colleagues, strengthening research activity, and contributing to quality assurance and accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical or skills-based sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students in public health or a related area.
- Contribute to the design, development, review, and delivery of curricula, syllabi, training guidelines, and academic policies.
- Prepare and administer assessments, moderate examination materials, and take part in internal and external examination review.
- Advise and mentor students, supervise Master’s and PhD research, and support postgraduate proposals, theses, and examinations.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research, seek and manage relevant grants, and share findings through peer-reviewed publications and academic presentations.
- Support accreditation, audits, quality assurance, and the review of training resources and practice sites.
- Mentor junior academic staff, including graduate assistants, tutorial fellows, visiting lecturers, and adjunct faculty.
- Contribute to departmental and university planning, budgets, committees, student recruitment and orientation, and engagement with academic and external stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
- PhD in Public Health, Health Professions Education, Medical Education, or a related health discipline from a recognized institution.
- Training in at least one relevant area, such as health informatics, health records, health management, or health economics.
- At least three years of university teaching experience in public health or a related field, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable.
- Evidence of curriculum design, development, and review, along with experience supervising postgraduate students.
- Demonstrated independent or collaborative research and a record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Knowledge of research methods, research ethics, academic integrity, postgraduate policies, examination procedures, and higher education standards.
- Experience assessing postgraduate proposals, theses, or dissertations and serving on academic committees; quality assurance or accreditation experience is an advantage.
- Strong teaching, assessment, feedback, research, and grant-writing capabilities, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective mentoring, analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and ICT skills, including familiarity with learning or research management platforms.
- Ability to interpret academic regulations, work collaboratively and independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain integrity and professionalism.
