Role Overview
IRES is looking for a biomedical engineering consultant who can combine specialist technical knowledge with practical training and advisory work. Depending on assignment needs, you will design and lead learning activities, support healthcare technology and equipment-management projects, and help participants apply sound engineering practices in their work.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver technical courses in biomedical engineering, medical equipment management and healthcare technology.
- Prepare presentations, case studies, practical exercises and other materials suited to each programme and participant group.
- Lead workshops and professional learning sessions, making complex engineering topics clear and relevant to day-to-day practice.
- Provide technical expertise for training proposals, course curricula and consultancy assignments.
- Advise on biomedical engineering matters, including equipment maintenance, testing, calibration and lifecycle management.
- Update learning content to reflect applicable standards, technologies and current industry practice.
- Check participant understanding and give useful feedback to support continued learning.
- Contribute technical and capacity-building support to related consultancy engagements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- A master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Healthcare Technology Management or a related field is an advantage.
- Current registration and licensing with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Current membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- A relevant professional certification in your area of specialisation, where applicable.
- Practical experience delivering technical or professional training, facilitating workshops, giving technical presentations or transferring specialist knowledge. A Training of Trainers certification is an advantage.
- Working expertise in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology, medical equipment management and maintenance, biomedical instrumentation, testing and calibration, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, clear communication and presentation skills, sound professional judgement, attention to detail and the capacity to work independently as a consultant.

Engagement is on a needs basis for individual training and consultancy assignments. The scope, duration, deliverables and professional fees will be agreed before each assignment.
