Job Description

Role Overview

This role centres on delivering engaging, competency-based instruction in Kiswahili, Social Studies (SST), and Christian Religious Education (CRE) to upper primary learners. Day to day, you will design lesson activities that build critical thinking and moral values, track each pupil’s academic growth, and adjust your approach to meet diverse learning needs. Your work directly supports the school’s commitment to holistic education and positive learner outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily lessons that follow the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for Kiswahili, SST, and CRE, using varied instructional strategies to maintain engagement.
  • Create formative and summative assessments, mark learners’ work, and maintain detailed records of individual progress and performance.
  • Design and prepare teaching aids, worksheets, and digital resources that reinforce learning objectives and cater to different learning styles.
  • Establish a structured, respectful classroom environment where discipline is consistent and learners feel safe to participate and ask questions.
  • Identify learners who need extra support or enrichment, then implement targeted interventions or differentiated tasks accordingly.
  • Contribute to co-curricular activities such as clubs, sports, or cultural events, integrating them into the broader school programme.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians through meetings, reports, and informal updates about learner achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Follow all school policies, maintain professional conduct, and collaborate with colleagues to uphold academic and ethical standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Primary Teacher Education (P1) certificate or equivalent from an recognised institution.
  • Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Kiswahili, Social Studies, and CRE at the primary level, particularly upper primary classes.
  • Thorough understanding of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and its assessment approaches.
  • Comfortable using ICT and digital learning tools (e.g., tablets, projectors, educational apps) to enhance delivery and learner interaction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage learners, parents, and staff effectively.
  • A track record of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to learner development.
  • Ability to work independently and manage classroom duties with minimal supervision.
