Job Description

Role Overview

This is a group-level leadership role that owns how Safer Power Group is seen, heard and understood — across its home markets and wherever it is winning new business in Africa. Day to day, the job blends strategy with execution: shaping the annual marketing plan and budget, directing agency and in-house teams, putting the CEO and executive team in front of the right audiences, and turning the Group's engineering, EPC, manufacturing and renewable energy strengths into campaigns that produce measurable commercial pipeline. The role exists because growth in competitive African energy and infrastructure markets depends as much on credibility, visibility and stakeholder trust as it does on technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the Group's marketing, brand and communications direction — covering positioning, market and customer segmentation, annual plans, budgets and the growth opportunities worth pursuing next.
  • Build commercial marketing programmes that feed the sales and business development teams with qualified leads, open doors to strategic accounts, encourage cross-selling across Group products and services, and demonstrate a clear return on marketing spend.
  • Run corporate communications end to end: media relations, announcements, executive messaging, internal communications, reputation and crisis response, and consistent messaging across every business unit and country.
  • Own the digital agenda — corporate website and platforms, social and content campaigns, search visibility, digital lead generation, and reporting on performance.
  • Strengthen the Group's standing in renewable energy, sustainability and engineering through thought leadership, technical content, project case studies, technology partnerships and certifications.
  • Design market-entry and brand plans for Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi, and support expansion into further African markets through competitor intelligence and market analysis.
  • Advise the CEO and executive management on strategic communications, and cultivate relationships with government, regulators, investors, partners and industry bodies while raising the profile of senior leaders through conferences, exhibitions and speaking platforms.
  • Recruit, develop and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team, manage agency and supplier relationships, set performance standards and keep spend within the approved budget.

How Success Is Measured

  • Revenue influenced by marketing activity, with a target return of at least 3:1 on marketing investment.
  • Year-on-year improvement of at least 20% on agreed brand-awareness measures, and at least 90% compliance with Group brand standards in every market and business unit.
  • At least 30% year-on-year growth in qualified digital traffic and marketing-generated leads, against agreed conversion and ROI targets.
  • At least 24 quality media placements and six executive thought-leadership opportunities each year, with at least 70% of coverage positive or neutral.
  • Market-entry strategies delivered for at least two priority African markets annually, plus at least five qualified strategic partnership opportunities per year.
  • Customer and stakeholder satisfaction of at least 85%, supported by at least four strategic engagement initiatives a year in priority markets.
  • At least 90% of the approved annual marketing and communications plan delivered on time, spend held within ±5% of budget, and at least 90% of team performance targets met.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a closely related discipline; a Master's or other postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • 8–12 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3–5 years leading a marketing, communications or corporate affairs function at senior level.
  • A demonstrable track record in B2B marketing tied to commercial growth, ideally gained in renewable energy, engineering, manufacturing, EPC, infrastructure or a comparable sector.
  • Hands-on strength in media relations and crisis communications, with the judgement to represent a Group to journalists, regulators, investors and government stakeholders.
  • Working command of digital marketing — website and platform management, content and social campaigns, search performance, lead generation and analytics.
  • Experience building and running budgets, appointing and managing external agencies, and setting performance standards for a team.
  • Comfort operating across multiple African markets and cultures, with the analytical skills to read competitors, segment customers and translate market insight into plans.
  • Strong writing and presentation ability in English, with the credibility to prepare executive-level communications and technical marketing content.

Why Join

  • The mandate is genuinely group-wide: brand, communications, digital and commercial marketing for an organisation working across Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi and actively expanding into new African markets.
  • You will work at the centre of the renewable energy, electrical engineering, EPC and manufacturing story at a time when those capabilities are in strong demand across the continent.
  • Direct access to the CEO and executive management, with real influence over how the Group is positioned with investors, regulators, partners and customers.
  • Freedom to build the function — shaping the team, the agency roster, the processes and the performance standards rather than inheriting them.
  • Ladies are highly encouraged to apply.
