Role Overview
As a PP1 Montessori Teacher in Buruburu, Nairobi, you will guide young learners through purposeful, hands-on activities that build independence, early literacy and numeracy, and social skills. You will shape a safe, welcoming classroom, observe each child’s development, and work closely with families and colleagues to support learners’ progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead age-appropriate Montessori activities that encourage curiosity, concentration, and independent learning.
- Introduce Montessori materials, demonstrate their use, and help children develop skills at an appropriate pace.
- Observe children’s learning and adapt activities to suit their developmental, emotional, and physical needs.
- Keep the classroom orderly, engaging, and safe, with learning materials accessible and well maintained.
- Supervise learners throughout the school day, supporting their hygiene, wellbeing, and personal safety.
- Encourage respectful behaviour, self-discipline, cooperation, and positive relationships among children.
- Maintain attendance information, observation notes, and individual developmental records; prepare progress updates for families.
- Coordinate with parents, teachers, and school leadership on learner needs, curriculum activities, and school events.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in Montessori education from a recognised teacher-training institution.
- Two to three years of teaching experience in a Montessori early childhood setting.
- Practical knowledge of Montessori teaching principles, early childhood development, and child observation.
- Strong communication and organisational skills, including the ability to keep accurate learner records.
- A patient, caring approach and the ability to support young children with different learning and developmental needs.
- First Aid certification and child safeguarding training are advantageous.
