Role Overview
This role places you at the frontline of dairy quality assurance, working directly with farms and collection points to assess raw milk before it ever reaches the processing plant. You will spend your days calibrating equipment, running field tests, and verifying that every batch meets strict safety and composition standards, while also coordinating the secure and timely transport of milk to the factory. Your vigilance protects the company’s reputation, reduces waste, and ensures consumers receive a consistently safe product.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily calibration checks on all raw milk testing instruments to maintain reliable, repeatable results.
- Mix and standardize chemical reagents according to approved quality test methods, ensuring they are fresh and correctly prepared.
- Conduct on-site sampling and sensory, compositional, and microbiological testing of raw milk, rejecting any batch that falls below required specifications.
- Confirm that test results from incoming deliveries at the factory are accurate, and immediately flag any deviations so corrective action can be taken.
- Oversee the loading and sealing of road tankers, using security seals and locking mechanisms to safeguard milk quantity and quality during transit.
- Inspect the cleanliness of all milk handling equipment—cans, tankers, and collection tools—and maintain a clear inspection log.
- Keep meticulous records of every delivery, including volumes, test outcomes, and any nonconformities, and report these to the Raw Milk Procurement and Extension Manager without delay.
- Participate in farmer training sessions and field days focused on clean milk production and good animal husbandry practices.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least a certificate or diploma in Dairy Technology, Food Science, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, or a comparable field from a recognized institution.
- Two to three years of hands-on experience grading raw milk or performing quality control in a high-volume milk collection centre or dairy processing facility.
- Solid computer literacy for logging data, generating reports, and using basic quality management software.
- Proven ability to keep accurate, organised records under time pressure.
- Strong customer-facing and interpersonal skills, especially when working with farmers and transport teams.
- Analytical mindset with sound problem-solving abilities to detect quality issues early and recommend practical fixes.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to communicate observations and test results clearly in written and verbal reports.
