Medical Officer

Role Overview

As a Medical Officer at our Meru Branch, you will be at the frontline of patient care, performing daily clinical assessments, managing both acute and chronic conditions, and ensuring that every patient who walks through our doors receives timely and accurate medical attention. Your work directly supports the hospital's reputation for compassionate, quality-focused healthcare in the region, as you collaborate with nurses, specialists, and support staff to maintain smooth clinical operations across wards, outpatient clinics, and the emergency unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient consultations, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations for both outpatient and inpatient cases.
• Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe appropriate medications, and order or interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies.
• Provide emergency medical care, stabilising critically ill patients and coordinating referrals to specialist departments when necessary.
• Monitor patient progress during admission, adjusting treatment protocols as needed and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
• Perform routine medical procedures, such as suturing, wound care, lumbar punctures, and other minor surgical interventions, within your scope of practice.
• Supervise and guide junior medical staff, including interns and clinical officers, while fostering a collaborative learning environment.
• Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment adherence, and post-discharge care plans.
• Participate in ward rounds, clinical audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives aligned with hospital policies and national health guidelines.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Full registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and a valid practising licence.
• A minimum of two years of post-internship clinical experience in a hospital setting, with exposure to emergency medicine, paediatrics, and internal medicine.
• Proficiency in managing common medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, severe infections, and trauma.
• Strong diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills, with attention to detail in patient documentation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated commitment to ethical medical practice, patient safety, and continuous professional development.
• Computer literacy for electronic medical records and telehealth systems is an added advantage.
