Job Description

Role Overview

This senior surveying role sits at the intersection of technical fieldwork, regulatory compliance, and strategic innovation. You will be responsible for modernising how land surveys are planned, executed, and validated — from testing emerging geospatial technologies to ensuring every cadastral and boundary survey meets legal standards. Your work directly supports land administration functions that rely on accurate, defensible survey data for government and public trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new survey methodologies, policies, and procedures to keep pace with evolving professional and technological demands.
  • Identify skills gaps among survey personnel and develop targeted capacity-building programmes aligned with current industry requirements.
  • Oversee applied research into emerging survey technologies, evaluating their practicality, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness for field deployment.
  • Verify the correctness of cadastral, adjudication, topographical, sub-divisional, and photo-engineering surveys, ensuring compliance with statutory standards.
  • Perform quality assurance on astronomical, gravity, magnetic, VLBI, and cadastral observations, as well as general boundary survey outputs.
  • Calibrate and certify survey instruments to maintain measurement integrity and traceability across all projects.
  • Prepare detailed estimates and costings for survey projects, supporting budget planning and resource allocation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in land surveying, land management, cartography, photogrammetry, photolithography, geomatics, geomatics engineering, geospatial engineering, GIS, urban or regional planning, geodesy, hydrography, environmental science, information science, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in land surveying and photogrammetry, geomatics, geomatics engineering, geoinformatics, geospatial engineering, or survey technology from a recognised institution.
  • Full membership of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK).
  • A recognised certificate in computer application skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise, control, and coordinate land administration functions in line with the Government Land Act (Cap. 280), Trust Land Act (Cap. 288), and other relevant statutes.
  • Full compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) on leadership and integrity.
