Role Overview
You will carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans for patients referred by doctors, turning clinical questions into clear images that guide treatment decisions. Your work sits at the centre of the patient experience, so you will need to combine technical precision with a calm, reassuring approach. Every scan you produce contributes directly to the imaging department's reputation for reliable, safe diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
- Review each ultrasound referral to confirm the clinical indication and select the correct scanning protocol for the examination requested.
- Welcome patients, explain what the scan involves, and address any concerns before positioning them appropriately for the procedure.
- Operate ultrasound systems and select the right transducers and settings to capture clear, anatomically accurate images.
- Record measurements, label images, and prepare preliminary findings for review by a radiologist or referring clinician.
- Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout the examination, while maintaining strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Keep the ultrasound room clean and well-organised, ensuring infection prevention procedures are followed between patients.
- Update patient records and imaging logs promptly and accurately, flagging any urgent abnormalities for immediate clinical attention.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance activities, including routine equipment checks and image review audits, and carry out any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma in medical imaging sciences with a specialisation in sonography from a recognised training institution.
- Registration with the Kenya Society of Radiographers and/or the relevant professional regulatory body.
- A valid practising licence that permits you to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in Kenya.
- A certificate in computer applications, showing solid digital literacy for working with imaging software and electronic patient records.
- Demonstrated professional competence in performing ultrasound procedures, along with effective communication skills and a patient-focused approach.
