Job Description

Role Overview

This role is centered on safeguarding local environments through hands-on field inspections, community outreach, and systematic data gathering. You will be the eyes on the ground for environmental compliance, tracking pollution incidents and illegal dumping while educating residents on responsible waste practices. Your work directly supports municipal efforts to enforce environmental regulations and improve public health outcomes in the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled environmental inspections across assigned zones, documenting conditions and flagging any irregularities.
  • Lead public sensitization campaigns that teach communities about proper waste handling, recycling, and environmental conservation.
  • Prepare clear inspection and compliance reports that summarize findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify recurring pollution hotspots and illegal dumping sites, then map their locations for targeted follow-up.
  • Collect environmental monitoring data such as waste composition, air quality indicators, or water contamination samples as directed.
  • Maintain accurate field records and ensure all data is properly logged and reported to supervisors.
  • Support the supervisor with additional operational tasks related to environmental protection and waste management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A certificate in environmental management, waste management, environmental conservation, waste handling and recycling, or an equivalent relevant technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Solid computer proficiency, including basic word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.
  • Must be a Kenyan graduate who is currently unemployed and not engaged in formal employment.
  • Must not have retired or exited from formal employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with community members and local authorities.
  • Ability to work comfortably in outdoor field environments, sometimes in challenging terrain or weather.
  • Genuine willingness to learn, adapt, and collaborate with diverse community groups.
  • Capability to prepare straightforward reports and maintain organized records without close supervision.
