Position Title: Mechanical Engineer

Direct Line Reporting: Plant Engineering Manager

Industry Sector: Manufacturing

Gross Salary Structure: Kshs. 80,000 - 100,000

Location: Mombasa Road

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly technical, problem-solving Mechanical Engineer to oversee the operational reliability and technical efficiency of our production plant. Your primary objective is to manage the end-to-end upkeep of heavy industrial machinery, diagnosing system vulnerabilities and reducing unplanned factory downtime. This position bridges complex hands-on troubleshooting with structural process design; you will guide assets from routine preventive maintenance and CAD-assisted modifications through to full installation and machine commissioning. The role calls for an analytical engineer who thrives in fast-paced manufacturing settings and understands how to optimize output quality while maintaining strict safety standards.

Areas of Accountability

Machine Dependability & Plant Upkeep

  • Execute rigorous routine inspections, structured preventive servicing, and major corrective overhauls on heavy mechanical installations and factory plant machinery.

  • Diagnose technical failures in intricate hydraulic, pneumatic, and physical drive assemblies, deploying immediate field fixes.

  • Architect and run comprehensive daily, monthly, and seasonal maintenance frameworks to boost asset longevity and preserve plant infrastructure.

  • Meticulously update technical machinery logs, tracking replacement parts, service frequencies, and historical breakdown data.

Process Refining & Output Enhancement

  • Analyze live manufacturing lines to identify mechanical bottlenecks, recommending modifications to increase material throughput and eliminate operational waste.

  • Partner with floor production supervisors to optimize machine settings, speed ratios, and power usage across the plant.

  • Champion internal continuous improvement methodologies, embedding Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) workflows into daily routines.

Mechanical Blueprint Design & Diagnostics

  • Conceptualize, sketch, and improve specialized machine components and tooling setups using engineering applications like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

  • Prepare comprehensive technical schematics, precise material specifications, and operational manuals for internal engineering reference.

  • Supervise the physical installation, structural alignment, and operational commissioning of newly acquired machinery assets.

  • Conduct rapid emergency fault-finding sessions during live breakdowns, running root-cause analyses to ensure technical faults do not repeat.

Industrial Safety & Third-Party Management

  • Enforce total compliance across all mechanical lines with national occupational health laws, environmental standards, and internal corporate safety guidelines.

  • Lead active risk assessments, machinery hazard isolation exercises, and workplace incident investigations alongside safety officers.

  • Coordinate with external fabrication contractors and hardware suppliers regarding specialized equipment overhauls and raw component procurement.

Skills & Experience Required

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Academic Foundation: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely matching engineering discipline from a recognized institution.

  • Professional Track Record: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on mechanical experience inside an active factory setup (direct exposure to steel manufacturing, roofing, or heavy structural fabrication plants is highly preferred).

  • Technical System Mastery: Deep operational knowledge of industrial mechanical frameworks, fluid power systems, high-pressure hydraulics, and pneumatic circuits.

  • Software Tools: Active, proficient competency drafting and structural remodeling within AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar professional CAD suites.

Core Capabilities

  • Analytical Diagnostics: Elite technical troubleshooting skills, with a proven ability to interpret engineering blueprints and handle complex multi-system machinery failures.

  • Resilience Under Pressure: Capacity to coordinate multiple breakdown calls simultaneously, balancing safety and quick factory floor restoration targets.

  • Interpersonal Agility: Excellent team communication habits, capable of working harmoniously alongside cross-functional production, electrical, and procurement crews.

What We Offer

  • Advanced Technical Exposure: Take ownership of complex, high-capacity machinery ecosystems within a leading manufacturing sector.

  • Career Evolution: Expand your engineering portfolio by leading high-value factory optimization, design upgrades, and equipment installation projects.

  • Professional Environment: Collaborate inside a metrics-driven culture that prioritizes modern engineering standards, safety, and operational excellence.
