Head of Local Raw Materials Strategy – East Africa
Lead the development and execution of EABL’s local sourcing strategy, working collaboratively with a complex set of internal and external partners, including EABL Senior Management, the EABL Source Center of Excellence, farmers, government and policy makers, value chain partners, and others. You will drive the core supply chains for sorghum, barley, maize, and cassava, taking full accountability for project design and execution in close partnership with in‑market and above‑market leadership teams as well as private and nonprofit partners.
Market Complexity
This role is part of the governance structure for EABL’s Local Raw Materials (LRM) strategy and execution across East Africa, with accountability for delivering key LRM business goals. The following market and role complexities apply:
- Liaise with, consult, and advise the EABL Head of Procurement, Market Supply Chain Directors, CR Directors, and Heads of Procurement. As part of the Africa Source Center of Excellence, engage with CoE leadership to ensure high standards in both design and execution of the East Africa Local Sourcing Strategy.
- Work across functions and with the leadership team to develop and implement a LRM strategy that guarantees cost‑effective and sustainable local supply chains for core materials.
- Collaborate with the EABL Head of Procurement and the Source CoE leadership team to identify and implement partnerships and breakthrough business models that deliver value across all markets.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of best‑in‑class LRM strategies for EABL. Work closely with EABL Executive and functional teams to ensure LRM strategies are fit‑for‑market and pursued with rigor and pace. Interface with senior state and federal government officials, as well as senior management of partner organisations in both the private and nonprofit sectors.
Top Accountabilities
- Lead the development and execution of EABL’s 5‑year LRM strategy, prioritising the implementation of a sustainable sourcing model for sorghum, barley, and cassava.
- Ensure supply chain stability and growth for Diageo Africa LRM by working closely with internal and external partners across Africa.
- Lead the Africa Agribusiness team, shaping the design and execution of cross‑cutting initiatives across markets and geographies.
- Manage, motivate, and drive team performance.
- Lead the implementation of Diageo’s Sustainable Agriculture Strategy, ensuring fit‑for‑purpose execution of key objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in the exceptional development and execution of local sourcing strategies involving a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders across multiple geographies.
- Strong, persuasive leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
- Astute commercial sensibility with a track record of delivering clear financial outcomes.
- Degree or equivalent in any technical discipline.
- Strong knowledge of agricultural supply chains is essential.
- Awareness of Diageo’s quality, risk management, environmental, and safety standards is a strong plus.
- An established network of government and business contacts in the field of agri‑business development.
