Role Overview
We are looking for a Machine Operator to take charge of food packaging equipment for roasted cereal products at J&I Consult, a sister company of Career Options Africa Group. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, running, and maintaining packaging machines so that items like peanuts, beans, and potato crisps are packed safely, consistently, and to the required visual and quality standards. Your ability to spot problems early and keep production lines moving directly impacts daily output, product freshness, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up packaging machinery before each shift, including loading packaging materials, adjusting settings, and ensuring equipment is ready for production.
- Operate packaging lines for roasted cereals with precision, monitoring speed, temperature, and alignment throughout the run.
- Perform regular quality checks on both packaging materials and finished products to confirm seals, weights, labels, and presentation meet specifications.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical or electrical faults quickly to prevent extended downtime and escalate complex issues when necessary.
- Keep accurate records of production volumes, machine maintenance activities, and any incidents or interruptions during shifts.
- Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols, and maintain a clean, clutter-free work environment.
- Collaborate with other operators and production team members to meet daily targets and delivery deadlines.
- Report recurring equipment issues or quality concerns to supervisors to support continuous improvement on the line.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A craft certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- At least one year of practical experience operating machinery, preferably in a food packaging company handling roasted cereals like peanuts, beans, or potato crisps.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply practical problem-solving skills on the production floor.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistent product quality.
- The ability to work efficiently and remain focused in a fast-paced production environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to cooperate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices will be considered an added advantage.
