Job Description

Role Overview

You will take charge of a shift in an industrial biomass energy plant, directing the safe, steady operation of PLC/DLC-controlled boilers around 20 TPH in capacity that feed a turbine. Your focus is on maintaining continuous steam output and protecting people, equipment, and the environment from operational failures. You will lead a crew of boiler operators, solve plant performance issues in real time, and coordinate closely with maintenance and engineering to keep the plant running at peak reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operation of boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems, adjusting steam loads and managing startups, shutdowns, and planned unit changes throughout your shift.
  • Enforce plant safety protocols and immediately address any unsafe conditions, ensuring every crew member follows approved procedures.
  • Diagnose and resolve process upsets as they occur, documenting root causes, corrective actions, and equipment deficiencies clearly enough for follow-up maintenance crews.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and technical teams on both scheduled outages and unplanned repairs, providing accurate status updates and prioritizing work based on plant needs.
  • Keep a close watch on fuel supply by monitoring hopper levels, directing front-end loader operations, and checking incoming deliveries of wood waste for quality and contamination.
  • Review shift logs, control room trends, and performance data to spot inefficiencies, repetitive faults, or safety risks, and recommend practical improvements to plant management.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate boiler operators on your shift, using hands-on demonstrations and structured on-the-job instruction to raise team competence.
  • Maintain thorough records of shift activities, incidents, and maintenance requests, plus prepare daily reports and lead the morning operations meeting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, plant engineering, or a directly related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining industrial or manufacturing boilers.
  • Proven skill with PLC/DLC-controlled boiler systems and familiarity with their control logic, alarms, and tuning adjustments.
  • Demonstrated experience running boilers in the 20 TPH range and managing boilers integrated with turbines for cogeneration or power generation.
  • Supervisory background that includes leading shift operators, assigning tasks, conducting performance reviews, and managing emergency responses.
  • Strong ability to analyze mechanical, electrical, and process control problems quickly and take effective corrective action.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills for shift reports, handovers, and cross-department coordination.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing technical training and to act as a mentor for less experienced plant personnel.
