Job Description

Role Overview

As a Boiler Operator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and upkeep of high-capacity boilers (roughly 20 tonnes per hour) that feed a connected turbine. Your primary focus will be maintaining a stable and continuous steam supply, which is critical to keeping the entire plant running without interruption. Beyond routine operation, you will monitor equipment health, manage water chemistry, and step in for emergency repairs when safety demands immediate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Start up, run, and shut down low- and high-pressure boilers while responding quickly to fluctuating steam and load demands.
  • Perform routine visual inspections, read pressure and temperature gauges, and adjust controls to keep boiler performance within optimal ranges.
  • Log all critical readings—pressure, temperature, TDS, PPM, pH, and fuel consumption—to maintain accurate operational records for both internal tracking and regulatory inspections.
  • Check pipes, valves, pumps, and safety devices for signs of leaks, wear, or malfunction, and take corrective action when problems are detected.
  • Blow down boilers when impurities and conductive solids exceed allowable limits, and test both high- and low-pressure safety controls on a scheduled basis.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks such as lubricating stokers, fans, motors, and hydraulic or pneumatic mechanisms, as well as operating valves, pressure switches, and safety valves.
  • Manage boiler water chemistry by adding conditioning chemicals, performing conductivity, alkalinity, phosphate, silica, sulphate, and hardness tests, and maintaining the prescribed chemical balance.
  • Coordinate with external inspectors on safety and compliance checks, and conduct emergency troubleshooting and repairs to protect personnel and equipment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Plant or Production options.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining PLC/DLC-controlled boiler systems.
  • Proven experience with boilers of approximately 20 TPH capacity.
  • Direct experience operating boilers connected to a turbine is mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of water treatment testing procedures, including conductivity, alkalinity, phosphate, and hardness checks.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance tasks in mechanical, plumbing, or related trades when needed.
  • Strong attention to safety protocols and a track record of adhering to fire and operational safety precautions.
