Locum Nutritionist

Role Overview

The Locum Nutritionist provides hands-on nutrition care at health facilities, concentrating on finding and treating acute malnutrition, delivering micronutrient supplements, and promoting best practices in maternal, infant, and young child nutrition. Working under the Senior Nutrition Officer, this position ensures that children under five and pregnant or lactating women receive continuous, protocol-driven care from community screening through to facility-based treatment. The role also strengthens local capacity and data systems so that nutrition services remain responsive, accurate, and aligned with national and WHO guidance.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) for children under five and pregnant/lactating women in outpatient therapeutic and supplementary feeding programs, following WHO 2023 IMAM protocols.
• Conduct daily stabilization center ward rounds, ensuring that observations, prescribed treatments, and procedures are carried out and documented correctly in patient records according to national IMAM guidelines; manage infants under six months and their mothers using the MAMI protocol and IMAM guidelines.
• Collect, enter, and report IMAM data using registers, tablets, and health information systems; prepare weekly and monthly nutrition reports for KHIS/LMIS and take part in facility-based data review meetings to track key indicators.
• Strengthen nutrition surveillance and assessment systems at health facilities and in the community so that acutely malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women are identified and treated promptly.
