Role Overview

This position centres on the psychological care and emotional safety of family caregivers taking part in a dementia support study. The clinician will lead both virtual and face-to-face group conversations, help caregivers manage the pressures of supporting someone with dementia, and respond when participants show signs of significant distress. The role is essential for keeping the study’s caregiver support component safe, responsive, and consistent across all training cohorts.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct one-hour online discussion forums after Module One for care partners, delivering five forums for each of the four family caregiver training cohorts.
• Lead four in-person education and support group sessions for care partners of people living with dementia.
• Create a supportive space during online and in-person forums where caregivers can discuss their experiences and emotional needs.
• Monitor participants for signs of psychological distress and provide immediate, first-line emotional support during sessions.
• Identify caregivers who need additional care and refer them to appropriate psychological support services.
• Produce weekly summary reports covering cohort participation, sessions completed, and any distress cases observed and managed.
• Coordinate with the study team on monitoring, evaluation, ethics, and safeguarding matters related to caregiver wellbeing.
• Maintain a session calendar and ensure all cohorts receive continuous, timely sessions throughout the study period.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Master’s degree in clinical psychology or a closely related psychology field.
• Current registration or licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Kenya.
• At least two years of relevant experience providing psychological support and facilitating groups.
• Experience supporting caregivers, older adults, or individuals affected by dementia is an advantage.
• Ability to recognise distress, deliver first-line psychological support, and make suitable referrals.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with a solid understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
