Its founding purpose was to give Jesuit students preparing for priesthood a first theological formation at university level. The undergraduate theology programme trains students from about fourteen local and international religious congregations, while the graduate Peace Studies and International Relations programme attracts students from various backgrounds and nationalities. In response to Africa’s serious need for peace and international cooperation, the college created its Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations in 2004. The institute began offering a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and International Relations and was accredited by the Commission for University Education in the 2007/2008 academic year. The theology programme forms students in contextualized theology and prepares them to transform the contemporary context of church and society. In a similar way, the Peace Studies and International Relations programme seeks to educate and form women and men with the skills and competence needed for conflict transformation and peace building. Role Overview

The Advancement Office Intern provides hands-on support to the College's fundraising and alumni relations functions, helping to keep donor records accurate, research pipelines active, and communication materials polished. Working under supervision, this intern contributes directly to campaigns such as Hekima Giving Day and plays a supporting role in building relationships with donors, partners, and alumni. The position is designed for someone eager to gain practical experience in institutional advancement while helping the College strengthen its resource base and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine administrative tasks that keep the Advancement Office running smoothly day to day.
  • Help prepare, organise, and maintain donor and alumni records and databases, ensuring information stays current and accurate.
  • Research prospective donors, foundations, corporations, development agencies, and other funding or partnership leads, then draft prospect profiles for review by the Advancement Office.
  • Assist in drafting, formatting, and finalising fundraising proposals, concept notes, donor briefs, reports, presentations, and other advancement materials.
  • Support donor correspondence—acknowledgements, invitations, updates, and follow-up messages—under appropriate supervision.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of fundraising campaigns, including Hekima Giving Day and other advancement initiatives.
  • Support social media and digital communication efforts that raise the profile of the College and its fundraising work.
  • Gather stories, photographs, testimonials, statistics, and other content that can strengthen fundraising and institutional communications.
  • Track relevant fundraising opportunities, calls for proposals, grants, scholarships, and partnership openings.
  • Prepare databases, spreadsheets, mailing and contact lists, and activity reports, and provide logistical support for meetings, presentations, donor visits, and other Advancement Office activities.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Development Studies, Fundraising, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Strong written and spoken English, plus some knowledge of at least one foreign language.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders respectfully.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good organisational and administrative abilities, with an eye for accuracy and detail.
  • Competence in conducting basic online and documentary research.
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Discretion and a clear understanding of confidentiality when handling donor and alumni information.
  • Genuine interest in fundraising, higher education, development work, communications, alumni relations, or institutional advancement.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Recent graduates and candidates seeking practical experience in institutional advancement are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience in fundraising, communications, development, marketing, public relations, administration, or a similar area is an added advantage.
  • The role suits someone with creativity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
  • Professional maturity, reliability, and close attention to detail are valued in this position.
  • You will interact with students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and partners, so the ability to engage respectfully and professionally with diverse stakeholders is essential.
  • Success in this role calls for teamwork, the ability to meet deadlines, and an appreciation for the mission and values of Hekima University College.
