It was established through the Alupe Legal Order Gazette Notice No 163 of 24th July 2015. Its Council was constituted vide special gazette notice No.136 of 7th November 2016. It was started following a request by the then Busia North community to the then President of Kenya H.E Hon Mwai Kibaki when he visited the area on 18th September 2007. Subsequently it started as the Alupe Campus of Moi University in 2008. The University College has 200 acres of land in Busia County. It is located 7 kilometres from Busia town on the Busia-Malaba Road. It is 23 kilometres from Malaba town. It is situated in Teso South constituency of Busia County and is the only Public University in the Busia County. It neighbours Uganda and therefore will expand the international student exchange programs including cross border training and research in the East African region. It will work with the neighbouring KEMRI, KALRO and LBDA scientists in teaching, research and service provision to the Kenyan population and in the region. Role Overview

This university faculty position combines classroom teaching with active research and community outreach in nursing. Day to day, you will prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervise thesis and dissertation work, and contribute to the department's research output by publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The role matters because it directly shapes the next generation of nursing professionals and advances evidence-based practice through scholarly inquiry and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver nursing course content across multiple programmes, aligning with curriculum standards and professional competency frameworks.
  • Supervise master's and doctoral students in their research projects, providing guidance on methodology, ethics, and manuscript preparation.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research leading to publication in recognised journals and presentation at academic conferences.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure programmes meet regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Engage in community health initiatives and outreach activities that link academic knowledge to real-world nursing practice.
  • Mentor junior faculty and students through academic advising, career guidance, and professional development activities.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees, contributing to governance, quality assurance, and strategic planning.
  • Maintain current clinical competency and a valid practice licence, integrating practical experience into teaching and research.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing from a recognised and accredited university.
  • A Master's degree in Nursing from a recognised and accredited university.
  • At least three years of university teaching and research experience at the level of Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer, or an equivalent role.
  • A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, with at least sixteen (16) derived from refereed journal papers.
  • A valid Practising Licence issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications relevant to teaching and research.
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching, research, innovation, mentorship, and community engagement.
