Job Description

Role Overview

This position is for a full-time university lecturer in Theology and Biblical Studies, responsible for delivering undergraduate and postgraduate instruction across multiple courses each semester. Beyond classroom teaching, the role centres on advancing the department's research output, supervising student dissertations, and upholding academic standards through rigorous assessment and curriculum development. Your work directly shapes the intellectual formation of theology students and contributes to the institution's scholarly reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials for at least four courses per semester, following the approved curriculum and academic calendar while adapting materials to student learning needs.
  • Supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guiding students from topic selection through to final submission, and ensuring their work meets the University's academic and ethical standards.
  • Set, mark, and moderate assignments, tests, and examinations, then compile and submit final results within the deadlines set by the academic calendar.
  • Conduct original research in theology or biblical studies, aiming to publish in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at academic seminars, conferences, and workshops on a regular basis.
  • Participate in departmental committees focused on curriculum development, quality assurance, and assessment policy, contributing your theological expertise to institutional decision-making.
  • Provide academic mentorship to students and early-career colleagues, offering guidance on research methods, career pathways, and scholarly writing.
  • Undertake additional duties assigned by University Management that support departmental goals and the broader strategic objectives of the institution.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A PhD in Theology, Biblical Studies, or a directly related discipline from a recognized and accredited university.
  • A minimum of three years of university-level teaching and research experience specifically in Theology or Biblical Studies.
  • Proven excellence in teaching, with the ability to communicate complex theological concepts clearly to undergraduate and postgraduate audiences.
  • A demonstrated record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals or other reputable academic outlets.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to work collaboratively within an academic department and across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Registration with the relevant professional or academic body governing theology scholars in the region, as applicable.
  • Excellent presentation and research communication skills, including experience delivering conference papers and engaging in academic debate.
