This role is important because it strengthens the school’s language programme and helps every child feel included, curious, and motivated to communicate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver Kiswahili lessons that keep children engaged and progressing.
  • Provide focused support to individual learners and small groups, reinforcing vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation skills.
  • Prepare and organise teaching resources, classroom displays, and learning materials so lessons run smoothly.
  • Lead or co-lead language games, songs, stories, and other hands-on activities that make Kiswahili memorable.
  • Assist with assessment tasks and simple record-keeping to help monitor learner progress.
  • Support Kiswahili-themed assemblies, celebrations, projects, and wider school events.
  • Help maintain a classroom where every learner feels safe, valued, and willing to try speaking a new language.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning sessions, and broader school activities while following safeguarding policies and the school’s behaviour code.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Kiswahili, Languages, or a related field.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English, with strong spoken and written Kiswahili skills.
  • A genuine passion for language learning and education.
  • Previous experience working with children is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with learners and colleagues.
  • Creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working with children.
  • A current police clearance certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • At least one academic or professional reference.
  • Alignment with Woodland Star’s mission and values.

Why Join Woodland Star

You will have opportunities to learn alongside colleagues, contribute to school events and assemblies, and take part in professional learning and team meetings. This role is a chance to grow as an educator while making a meaningful difference in children’s language journey.
