Role Overview
As a CNC Laser Cutting Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring laser cutting equipment to produce metal components that meet tight tolerances and strict quality standards. Your work directly supports manufacturing output for industrial products, with particular attention to high-integrity applications such as pressure vessels and gas cylinders. You will collaborate closely with production supervisors and quality inspectors to keep workflows running smoothly and minimise material waste.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC laser cutting machines by loading programmes, selecting appropriate cutting parameters, and positioning raw materials correctly.
- Operate laser cutting equipment safely and efficiently, monitoring the cutting process to detect any deviations or defects in real time.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and cutting plans to confirm part dimensions, hole positions, and edge quality.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning lenses and nozzles, checking gas pressure, and replacing consumables as needed.
- Conduct in-process quality checks using measuring tools such as callipers, micrometres, and gauges to ensure finished parts meet specifications.
- Optimise nesting layouts to maximise material utilisation and reduce scrap, while accommodating production schedules.
- Document production data, including batch numbers, machine settings, and inspection results, to support traceability and process control.
- Follow all safety protocols and company procedures, especially those relating to laser operation, material handling, and high-pressure components.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in mechanical engineering, production engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related technical field.
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC laser cutting machines in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Strong understanding of laser cutting principles, including gas assist, focus settings, and material behaviour for different metals.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and use precision measuring instruments accurately.
- Formal certification or structured training in CNC machine operation is considered an advantage.
- Prior experience in pressure vessel or LPG gas cylinder manufacturing is a plus, as this role may involve cutting materials with strict safety and quality requirements.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
