Job Description

Role Overview

As a Carpentry Artisan, you will be responsible for the hands-on construction, installation, and repair of timber and timber-based structures across our sites, working from technical drawings to deliver work that is accurate, durable, and finished to a professional standard. The role sits at the core of our building and maintenance operations — poorly fitted frames, weak formwork, or neglected repairs quickly become costly problems, so the quality of your day-to-day work directly shapes project timelines, structural safety, and client satisfaction. You will work both independently and alongside other trades, taking ownership of your assigned tasks from first measurement through to final inspection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret technical drawings, sketches, and written specifications to determine dimensions, materials, and installation methods before starting work.
  • Measure, mark, and cut timber and board materials using hand tools and power equipment, maintaining tight tolerances to avoid waste and rework.
  • Fabricate and install structural and finishing elements such as roof timbers, formwork, door and window frames, partitions, ceilings, floors, and fitted furniture.
  • Erect, brace, and dismantle temporary timber supports and formwork safely and in line with the approved sequence of works.
  • Inspect completed work and existing structures, identify defects such as rot, warping, joint failure, or moisture damage, and carry out effective repairs.
  • Prepare surfaces, apply fixings, and complete joints so that installations are square, level, plumb, and ready for follow-on trades.
  • Maintain, sharpen, and store hand and power tools correctly, and report damaged or faulty equipment promptly.
  • Observe all site safety rules, use personal protective equipment consistently, keep work areas clear of hazards, and report incidents or near misses.
  • Record material usage and work progress accurately, and coordinate with supervisors and other trades to keep schedules on track.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of Artisan Grade II in Carpentry from a recognized institution.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant hands-on experience in carpentry, joinery, or construction site work.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity and accountability in the conduct of duties and the handling of job responsibilities, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong safety awareness and a genuine commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and those around you.
  • Practical ability to read and work from technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Confident, safe use of carpentry hand tools and power tools, with sound knowledge of timber types, grades, and appropriate fixings.
  • Accuracy in measurement and setting out, with the physical stamina to carry out lifting, standing, and work at height over a full shift.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as cooperate effectively within a multi-trade team.
