Role Overview
This consultancy places you at the centre of how gender-related evidence is produced, organised, and applied across UN Women’s East and Southern Africa region. You will lead the day-to-day operation of knowledge systems, digital repositories, and business intelligence tools that allow data, research, and lessons learned to inform decision-making in country offices and regional programmes. By making evidence visible, secure, and easy to use, you help ensure that programming and policy choices are grounded in solid analysis and institutional memory.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain regional knowledge management frameworks, taxonomies, metadata standards, and governance protocols that guide how evidence is captured, catalogued, shared, and reused.
- Oversee the design and improvement of digital knowledge platforms and evidence repositories, integrating content from corporate systems such as GATE and ensuring smooth interoperability with programme, monitoring, and evaluation data.
- Create interactive dashboards, scorecards, and automated reporting products using tools like Power BI, Tableau, SQL, and Kobo Toolbox, translating raw data into actionable insights for management and programme teams.
- Facilitate learning reviews, after-action reviews, and evidence reflection sessions, and coordinate the production of knowledge briefs, lessons-learned products, and synthesis reports.
- Provide technical advice and hands-on training to country office staff and implementing partners on information management, dashboard development, evidence systems, and data governance.
- Establish quality assurance, version control, records management, and data protection procedures for all regional evidence and analytical products.
- Promote innovation in knowledge sharing by exploring emerging digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics, to improve evidence discoverability and use.
- Support regional and corporate reporting through streamlined data integration, visual analytics, and self-service tools that make evidence easier to access and interpret.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in information management, information science, information systems, data science, computer science, digital transformation, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in place of the advanced degree.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in designing and managing information systems, digital repositories, knowledge management platforms, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience with business intelligence and data visualisation tools, including Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or Kobo Toolbox, and familiarity with data analysis and programming in R or STATA.
- Proven ability to synthesise research, evaluation findings, and lessons learned into knowledge products and practical guidance for diverse audiences.
- Experience in gender equality, international development, humanitarian settings, statistics, research, or evidence programmes is an asset.
- Previous work within the UN system or other international organisations is an advantage.
- Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
