Role Overview
This position sits at the point where raw aerial capture becomes operational intelligence: you take the imagery and flight data coming off the drone fleet, turn it into orthomosaics, elevation models, maps and dashboards, and hand farm and management teams information they can actually act on. Day to day you will be moving between processing software, GIS, and spreadsheets of flight records, checking that every mission produced usable data and that the resulting layers match what is really happening on the ponds, channels and surrounding land. The value you create is straightforward — better visibility over infrastructure, vegetation and water, and faster, better-evidenced decisions about how the farm is run.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the drone data archive: organise imagery, flight logs, maps and finished outputs into structured, well-named repositories with clear versioning and consistent metadata, and retire or archive material that is no longer current.
- Process aerial imagery into usable spatial products, including orthomosaics, digital elevation models, point clouds and terrain outputs, and carry out multispectral processing for vegetation and environmental work.
- Run quality checks on incoming captures before analysis begins, flagging gaps, blur, misalignment or coverage problems and feeding those observations back to the pilots so future flights collect what is actually needed.
- Build and maintain GIS layers and spatial databases, and carry out spatial analysis that answers operational questions about pond infrastructure, vegetation condition, drainage, irrigation and flood exposure.
- Produce maps, charts, dashboards and other visual products for internal audiences, and explain the findings behind them in plain language to colleagues who do not work with spatial data.
- Analyse drone datasets for trends and patterns, including vegetation index work, and connect those findings to existing GIS and operational datasets so they sit alongside the rest of the farm's information.
- Help design and prototype data products — interactive maps, dashboards and lightweight tools — that make drone information easier to access and reuse, and refine the workflows that move data from capture through processing to sharing.
- Document everything: maintain records of processing steps and analyses, write standard procedures for data handling, and keep an audit trail of completed deliverables.
- Work alongside the Drone Operations Team and the wider Technology, Innovation, Data and Analytics functions, contributing to data requirements for new projects and joining field activities when ground verification or additional capture is required.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and experience
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in GIS or Geospatial Information Science, Surveying, Remote Sensing, Geography, Geomatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or another technical discipline with a strong spatial or data component.
- One to two years of relevant professional experience, whether in a GIS, remote sensing, survey or data analysis capacity.
Core technical skills
- Confident working in QGIS or ArcGIS.
- Solid grasp of coordinate systems, projections and the principles behind spatial data handling.
- Practical experience with both raster and vector datasets.
- Foundational understanding of remote sensing and aerial imagery.
- Comfort handling and organising large volumes of data, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to produce clear visualisations and short written reports from analysis.
Advantageous experience
- Processing or analysing drone imagery, ideally within DJI capture and processing workflows.
- Drone photogrammetry, orthomosaic and DEM generation, or 3D and terrain modelling.
- Multispectral analysis and vegetation indices such as NDVI.
- Spatial analysis in QGIS or ArcGIS, plus PostGIS or other spatial databases.

Personal attributes
- Analytical and methodical, with a genuine instinct for spotting problems and solving them.
- Meticulous about accuracy, detail and data integrity.
- Able to read spatial and technical information and draw sound conclusions from it.
- Organised, with strong documentation habits.
- A capable communicator who can present findings to non-technical colleagues without losing precision.
- Comfortable working independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Able to juggle several projects and deadlines at once.
- Curious about new technologies and analytical methods, and motivated by applying them to real operational problems.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Direct visibility into one of the world's fastest-growing aquaculture businesses, with drone data feeding decisions that shape day-to-day farm operations.
- A mission-oriented organisation where the work has a clear operational purpose rather than sitting on a shelf.
- A team invested in your development, offering coaching, mentorship and exposure to people and experiences drawn from the entrepreneurial and social-sector communities.
