Job Description

Role Overview

This position leads the technical rollout of the NYOTA Business Development Services (BDS) programme for young refugees, from training design through to on-the-ground delivery and quality control. Day to day, you will facilitate workshops, mentor trainers, observe sessions, and work with partners to keep the curriculum practical, inclusive, and aligned with local market realities. Your work directly enables participants to start, grow, and sustain businesses, strengthening their economic independence and resilience in displacement settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the consistent delivery of the approved BDS curriculum across assigned sites, ensuring trainers follow the set methodology, schedules, and MSEA standards.
  • Run experiential, participant-centred training sessions on business planning, financial literacy, record keeping, marketing, customer care, digital tools, and market access, adapting content to learners’ language, literacy, ability, and local market conditions.
  • Lead or co-deliver Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes, assess trainer readiness, conduct classroom observations, and provide ongoing coaching and structured feedback to close delivery gaps.
  • Carry out routine quality assurance checks on training sessions, materials, attendance, and trainer deployment, and follow up on any issues to keep delivery consistent across locations.
  • Link classroom learning to real business ventures by offering technical guidance on enterprise development, market identification, value-chain connections, and financial or business-network linkages.
  • Work with mentors to align post-training support with the BDS curriculum, including referrals and structured follow-up that responds to participants’ business needs.
  • Collect and analyse feedback from participants and trainers, document lessons learned, and recommend adaptations to improve the programme.
  • Maintain accurate training records and progress reports, submit them on time, and ensure safeguarding, PSEA, accountability, and Safe and Inclusive Programming principles are embedded throughout delivery.
  • Coordinate with the NYOTA Team Lead/Manager, BDS Officers, trainers, mentors, MSEA, and other government, UN, NGO, private-sector, and community stakeholders as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship, business management, business administration, economics, development studies, livelihoods, or a related field.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience implementing BDS or entrepreneurship programmes, including delivering business training.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • Knowledge of Swahili, Arabic, French, or other languages common in Kenyan refugee contexts is an asset.
  • Experience working in Kakuma, Kalobeyei, or Dadaab is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record working with youth and vulnerable groups, ideally in refugee or displacement-affected settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver Training of Trainers, coach trainers, and supervise their performance.
  • Practical experience supporting micro and small enterprises at the early stage.
  • Understanding of gender-responsive and disability-inclusive programming.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
