Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits within Trócaire’s finance team, providing expert guidance on financial management and control to country programmes across varied and often unpredictable settings. Day to day, you will review financial information from field teams, flag emerging risks or control weaknesses, and work alongside local colleagues to design realistic, workable improvements that protect resources and support programme delivery. Your judgement and technical advice will directly shape how funds are managed and reported, helping the organisation stay accountable to donors and to the communities it serves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review country-level financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, identifying variances, risks, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Assess the design and operation of internal controls across finance processes, recommending proportionate enhancements suited to local capacity and context.
  • Collaborate with country teams to develop and implement risk management strategies, including fraud prevention, safeguarding of assets, and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Provide clear technical advice and coaching to finance and programme staff, translating complex accounting standards into practical guidance for non-specialists.
  • Support the preparation of financial reporting packs for senior management, boards, or donors, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
  • Conduct field visits to country offices to review procedures, build relationships, and provide hands-on support during periods of change or pressure.
  • Contribute to organisational policy updates and training materials related to financial management, internal controls, and risk.
  • Act as a trusted point of escalation for finance-related concerns, bringing sound judgement and a collaborative approach to resolving issues.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualified Chartered or Certified Accountant (or equivalent recognised professional qualification).
  • Substantial experience in financial management, internal controls, risk management, and financial reporting, ideally within an international development or non-profit environment.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex financial data, identify weaknesses or risks, and propose practical, proportionate solutions with colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence delivering technical advice to diverse audiences across cultures.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and flexibility to respond to shifting priorities or emergencies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to different country programmes, sometimes at short notice.
  • Personal integrity, resilience, and a collaborative mindset, with a clear commitment to Trócaire’s ethos and values.

What We Offer / Why Join

Trócaire provides a competitive salary and benefits package alongside a supportive working environment. The organisation values work-life balance through policies such as hybrid and flexible working, allowing you to manage your schedule while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues. You will also gain the opportunity to apply your technical skills in meaningful international contexts, working directly with teams who deliver lasting change in communities worldwide.
