Job Description

Job Position: Internal Inspector

Operational Base: Kwale County

Industry: Manufacturing (Organic Exports)

Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: 2 years minimum

Requirements: Diploma in Agriculture + Valid Motorcycle License

Role Context

We are looking for a principled Internal Inspector to safeguard our organic and Fair-Trade certifications. Based in Kwale, you will be the primary link between field production and international regulatory bodies, ensuring that every farm and collection center adheres to USDA/NOP and EU organic standards. This is a field-intensive role requiring high mobility and technical accuracy.

Key Deliverables

Your objective is to maintain the integrity of our Internal Control System (ICS). You will conduct rigorous on-site inspections, verify field management practices, and perform yield estimations to prevent non-compliance. Beyond auditing, you will mentor farmers on climate-smart techniques and ensure that coconut traceability is maintained from the tree to the processing unit.

Professional Prerequisites

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of organic production methods (EU 2018/848 and USDA standards) and Fair-Trade requirements.

  • Field Capability: Willingness to spend long hours riding and walking through farms; a valid motorcycle license is mandatory.

  • Communication: Ability to translate complex certification rules into practical advice for farmers of all literacy levels.

  • Digital Literacy: Proficiency in using smart gadgets for surveys and Microsoft Excel for accurate data reporting.

Scope of Work

  • Certification Audits: Carrying out internal inspections of farms and production units in line with the annual work plan and Grower Group Quality Manual.

  • Compliance Monitoring: Identifying non-compliance issues and providing clear guidance on corrective actions to farmers.

  • Staff & Farmer Training: Educating field officers and buying clerks on inspection processes and updated organic regulations.

  • Data Integrity: Compiling detailed reports for the ICS data clerk and ensuring the Approved Farmers List (AFL) is current and accurate.

  • Impartiality: Maintaining strict ethical boundaries by declaring conflicts of interest and ensuring you do not audit personal ties or own land parcels.

Salary & Professional Value

  • Remuneration: Kshs. 30,000 – 35,000 Gross.

  • Industry Exposure: Gain high-level experience in international organic certification and sustainability standards.

  • Community Impact: Support Kwale farmers in achieving premium market access through better farming practices.
