Role Overview
This full-stack developer role focuses on building and maintaining web applications for the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO). Day-to-day work involves designing user interfaces, APIs, and backend services using TypeScript, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL, while collaborating with a globally distributed team and colleagues in New York. The role is critical to keeping DCO’s digital tools – including the UN INFO suite – reliable, secure, and aligned with evolving business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy new features and modules that address DCO’s operational priorities, following established development standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, performance issues, and enhancement requests from business stakeholders.
- Build and integrate frontend interfaces (React) and backend services (Node/Express), writing automated tests to ensure code quality.
- Create public and private APIs for the UN INFO suite, including documentation and integration support with external systems.
- Analyse existing applications to improve scalability, security, and user experience; propose and implement enhancements.
- Develop interactive dashboards and data visualisations that translate UN INFO data into actionable insights.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and knowledge-sharing sessions with the development team.
- Assist with DevOps tasks such as infrastructure maintenance, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and Azure cloud configuration.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Express, React, and PostgreSQL; familiarity with GitLab CI/CD and Git workflow.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure cloud services (or equivalent cloud platform).
- Proven ability to write comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end).
- Education options: Master’s degree in IT, computer science, web development, or related field plus five years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s degree plus seven years; OR secondary school diploma plus eleven years.
- Strong communication skills to document systems clearly and collaborate across remote and in-office teams.
