He started a small hardware store in downtown Nairobi in 1948 and that was the humble beginnings of what is now the Ramco Group. His 3 sons, Kirit, Mahendra and Chandrakant joined the family business after their studies and based on these strong family ties, the group built a solid foundation on which it could grow and expand. Ramco Group’s initial expansion was within the hardware and building supplies industry which the family knew well. However, in 1986, the brothers diversified into both stainless steel and printing with the acquisitions of ASL Steel and Polythene Industries respectively. These investments opened the door into new industries and soon after, further acquisitions were made in these sectors. In 1995, the Group acquired Sai Office Supplies, an office supplies distributor and soon after came investments in the retail side of this sector. Job Description

Role Overview

This position owns the commercial front end of project-based business — finding opportunities, shaping them into winning bids, and carrying them through to a signed contract. Working alongside engineering, estimation, and delivery colleagues, you translate technical requirements into compelling commercial offers that clients can confidently approve. The role is central to revenue growth: without a disciplined project sales function, qualified opportunities stall, tenders go unanswered, and awarded work is handed over without the context delivery teams need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prospect for and qualify new project opportunities through market research, industry contacts, referrals, and inbound enquiries, building a pipeline that matches the company's technical strengths.
  • Own the complete project sales cycle — from first contact and needs assessment through solution positioning, commercial negotiation, and contract award.
  • Prepare and submit quotations, commercial proposals, and technical documentation, coordinating inputs from engineering, procurement, and finance to keep submissions accurate and on time.
  • Monitor tender portals and client procurement channels, assess Requests for Proposals against internal capability and margin targets, and lead bid preparation for the opportunities worth pursuing.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, scope boundaries, and contract conditions with clients, escalating exceptions where they fall outside approved limits.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with key accounts, consultants, and specification writers so the company is invited to bid early rather than competing at the last stage.
  • Act as the bridge between sales and project delivery, running structured handover meetings so scope, commitments, and client expectations transfer cleanly to the execution team.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and produce regular sales reports covering pipeline health, win/loss analysis, and revenue forecasts for management review.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales & Marketing, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project sales or technical sales, ideally involving engineered products, systems, or capital works.
  • Demonstrated experience with tendering processes, bid preparation, and contract negotiation, including familiarity with commercial terms and conditions.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to discuss technical detail credibly with both engineers and commercial decision-makers.
  • Comfort working with specifications, drawings, and technical documentation, and the ability to translate them into clear value propositions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems, with the discipline to keep pipeline data and forecasts current.
  • Self-directed approach to lead generation, with the persistence to manage long sales cycles and multiple concurrent opportunities.
