Head of Supply Chain

Role Overview

You will run the day-to-day supply chain for a fast-growing fresh fish operation in Kenya, from sourcing feed and materials to delivering product cold and on time to branches nationwide. Every decision you make directly protects product freshness, controls costs, and keeps the farm running without interruption. This role reports to the Kenya Managing Director and works closely with a regional group to execute world-class procurement, import, warehousing, and distribution processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily fresh fish distribution from farm to logistics hubs and retail branches, ensuring cold-chain integrity and on-time delivery across the country.
• Manage inbound logistics for feed from local mills and international suppliers, maintaining buffer stock to prevent farm shortages.
• Own fleet and transport strategy including route planning, vehicle utilisation, 3PL contracts, and cost-per-kilogram benchmarks.
• Direct warehouse and stores operations with strict stock accuracy, goods receipt discipline, and first-expiry-first-out controls for feed, packaging, spares, and consumables.
• Build and lead the Kenya procurement team, covering category buying, local sourcing, import coordination, and procure-to-pay compliance.
• Handle the end-to-end import process – from supplier PO to customs clearance at Mombasa port and JKIA – including IDF, HS classification, duty calculation, KEBS conformity, and KRA iCMS lodgment.
• Drive weekly and monthly supply planning with Farm Operations, Sales, and Finance, and maintain a dashboard of OTIF delivery, cost per kilogram, stock accuracy, and import lead times.
• Develop a multi-site team of managers, buyers, coordinators, and clerks, building bench strength and championing ERP data quality across all supply chain transactions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive supply chain experience in Kenya or East Africa, with at least 4 years leading procurement, warehousing, and logistics as an integrated function.
• Background in high-volume, fast-moving product businesses such as FMCG, food and beverage, dairy, edible oils, consumer goods manufacturing or distribution, with proven cost-control and working-capital discipline.
• Hands-on experience with perishables and cold-chain distribution is strongly preferred.
• Deep, practical expertise in Kenyan import and customs processes – running end-to-end documentation (IDF, HS classification, duty and tax computation, KEBS/PVoC conformity) and managing licensed clearing agents through KRA iCMS, with a record of controlling demurrage and clearance lead times.
• Strong ERP-driven procure-to-pay discipline and a history of passing clean audits.
• Demonstrated success building, restructuring, and upskilling teams across multiple operational sites.
