Job Description

Role Overview

This role owns the commercial and operational performance of a Productive Use of Energy (PUE) business line — the appliances and systems that help households and small enterprises turn energy access into an income stream. Day to day, you will split your time between the field and the numbers: running acquisition and demonstration campaigns, holding a large agent network to its targets, protecting installation quality, and keeping after-sales service and claims moving fast enough that customers stay confident in the product. The employer relies on this position to turn PUE from a catalogue of products into a dependable revenue and impact engine, because customer income generation is the outcome against which the whole programme is judged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the full PUE sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, while mobilising at least 600 prospective clients each month and converting at a rate of 50%.
  • Plan, staff and run community mobilisation and product demonstration campaigns — a minimum of ten per month — and feed field insights back into messaging, targeting and product mix.
  • Recruit, onboard and continuously coach a network of 150 sales agents, setting clear volume expectations and intervening quickly when individual or team output slips.
  • Deliver monthly sales of at least 300 PUE products, matching each customer to the solution that best supports their income-generating activity.
  • Act as the operational relationship holder for local authorities, community leadership and other local stakeholders, keeping permissions, goodwill and communication channels current.
  • Uphold installation and technical support standards so that no customer waits more than three days between payment and a completed, quality-checked installation.
  • Run the after-sales function to a five-day response benchmark, resolve customer issues at source, and manage claims submissions monthly with zero rejections and zero lost or missing PUE stock.
  • Maintain customer files, contracts and documentation to audit standard, support grant-funded PUE components with accurate reporting, and escalate compliance or operational risks to management early.
  • Track and report performance across sales, installation, service and claims, and take corrective action where results fall short of target.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Typically four to six years in field sales, commercial operations or last-mile distribution, ideally within off-grid energy, solar, appliances or a comparable consumer-durable business.
  • Demonstrated experience building, training and managing a large commission-based or field agent network, including performance management and retention.
  • A verifiable record of hitting volume targets and conversion benchmarks in a territory-based sales environment.
  • Working knowledge of PUE or solar home system products, installation quality control and after-sales service processes.
  • Confidence engaging local authorities, community leaders and partner organisations, with strong negotiation and representation skills.
  • Comfort with field data tools and reporting — able to read performance dashboards, spot trends and act on them rather than simply compile figures.
  • Discipline in documentation, contracts and compliance, including exposure to grant or donor reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in business, sales and marketing, engineering, renewable energy or a related field, or comparable practical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Willingness to spend the majority of the working week in the field, travelling across assigned communities.

Why Join

This is a role with visible, monthly proof of impact — the targets you hit translate directly into products installed, businesses powered and household incomes strengthened. You will carry genuine ownership of a growing PUE operation, lead a substantial agent network, and work at the point where commercial performance and community development meet. If you are energised by building field systems from the ground up and being measured on results you can see in the communities you serve, this position offers that scope.
