Role Overview
This is a senior insurance leadership position accountable for the commercial health of a corporate business portfolio. The role sets the growth agenda, builds distribution through brokers and intermediaries, and leads a sales team to convert market opportunities into retained, profitable accounts. Its success matters because corporate clients are a major source of recurring revenue, and the employer depends on this position to balance aggressive acquisition with disciplined cost control and consistent service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and execute corporate sales, distribution, and business development plans that align with company targets, budgets, and long-term growth objectives, then review results and adjust approach as needed.
- Drive acquisition of new corporate accounts and expansion of existing ones through brokers, intermediaries, and direct channels, including cross-sell and repeat-business opportunities.
- Lead, coach, and manage the corporate sales team by setting performance targets, monitoring productivity, developing capability, and retaining key talent.
- Design and improve sales processes, policies, and procedures to make the function faster, more compliant, and more cost-effective.
- Build and sustain relationships with clients, brokers, intermediaries, and other market stakeholders to strengthen the company’s reputation and competitive position.
- Manage the sales pipeline, leads, and market opportunities using research, customer insight, and business intelligence to prioritize prospects and improve conversion.
- Own corporate revenue, retention, productivity, and cost performance against approved budgets and targets, providing senior management with timely reporting and commercial recommendations.
- Lead annual sales budgeting and resource planning so that people, spend, and business development activity support sustainable growth.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in insurance, marketing, business, or another relevant discipline.
- Insurance credentials: Diploma in insurance such as ACII or AIIK.
- Professional membership: Member of CII or IIK.
- Experience: At least 10 years in the insurance industry, with 5 of those years in a senior management role.
- Commercial track record: Proven ability to grow a corporate insurance portfolio, win and retain corporate clients, and work effectively through brokers and intermediaries.
- Insurance and financial expertise: Strong grasp of insurance products, financial drivers, and the commercial levers that influence portfolio profitability.
- Analytical decision-making: Comfort using business analytics, market data, and customer insights to guide strategy and sales execution.
- Leadership and people management: Experience setting targets, developing teams, managing performance, and maintaining productivity and retention.
- Stakeholder influence: Clear communication and relationship skills across clients, intermediaries, internal teams, and senior leadership.
- Execution and adaptability: Strong planning, results orientation, change leadership, and the ability to remain effective as market conditions shift.
- Digital and professional standards: Technology proficiency, digital agility, integrity, and professionalism in all business dealings.
