Job Description

Role Overview

This position leads the commercial services arm of the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK), overseeing the performance of multiple business units that support the broader health mission of the organisation. Day to day, the General Manager sets the strategic direction, drives commercial growth, manages financial performance, and ensures operational discipline across all units. Acting as the Accounting Officer, this role is the key link between the Board, executive teams, clients, partners, and investors, with the dual mandate of delivering strong business results while remaining faithful to CHAK’s Christian values and social impact goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the corporate strategy, annual business plans, and growth initiatives across all CBSL business units, ensuring alignment with CHAK’s overarching mission.
  • Drive revenue growth, profitability, and healthy cash flow through strong financial management, cost control, and efficient use of assets.
  • Identify and pursue new commercial opportunities, business ventures, and strategic partnerships with investors, development finance institutions, private sector players, and health facilities.
  • Ensure robust corporate governance, full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licences, contractual obligations, and CHAK policies, while upholding the organisation’s values.
  • Provide the Board with timely, high-quality reports on business performance, financial results, emerging risks, opportunities, and proposed strategic investments.
  • Lead enterprise risk management efforts to protect CBSL from financial, operational, reputational, cybersecurity, and other business threats.
  • Build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams, promoting accountability, integrity, innovation, excellence, and a strong customer focus across the workforce.
  • Maintain strong, trust-based relationships with the Board, clients, investors, development partners, government agencies, and other strategic stakeholders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration, strategic management, finance, commerce, economics, health management, or a related discipline from a recognised university.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, finance, economics, engineering, health management, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body in good standing; additional certification in corporate governance, executive leadership, strategic management, finance, project management, or enterprise risk management is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior executive leadership role with overall financial and commercial accountability.
  • Proven track record in business development, revenue generation, commercial management, strategic partnerships, and organisational growth.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing corporate strategies that deliver sustainable business growth and financial stability.
  • Hands-on experience working with boards of directors, investors, financial institutions, development partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing organisational transformation; background in healthcare, hospitality, consulting, infrastructure, ICT, financial services, development finance, or diversified commercial operations is an advantage.
  • Experience in a faith-based, social enterprise, or purpose-driven organisation is an added advantage.
  • Sound understanding of the Companies Act of 2015, corporate governance principles, and regulatory requirements affecting commercial entities in Kenya.
  • Must meet the integrity and leadership requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Must be a Christian and able to authentically embody CHAK’s Christian values and faith-based mandate, with willingness to travel as the business requires.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a senior leadership opportunity within a purpose-driven, faith-based organisation that directly contributes to the health and well-being of communities across Kenya. The role offers the chance to shape commercial strategy, build meaningful partnerships, and lead a portfolio of businesses whose success helps sustain CHAK’s wider health mission. You will operate with significant autonomy, work closely with a committed Board, and have the satisfaction of driving both financial performance and social impact in an organisation where values matter.
