Core Duties

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Landscaper to maintain and transform outdoor compound spaces in Mogadishu. Reporting to the Facilities Lead, you will assess soil and local environmental conditions, create planting schemes suitable for arid coastal climates, maintain irrigation infrastructure, execute routine grounds maintenance, and operate landscaping machinery safely.

Key Responsibilities

Site Planning & Landscape Design

• Develop detailed garden layouts, planting schemes, and visual concepts for new compound zones and existing green spaces.

• Select drought-tolerant plants, trees, turf, and shrubs compatible with local soil composition and coastal weather conditions.

• Calculate material volumes for topsoil, organic fertilizers, plant saplings, mulching, and hardscaping supplies.

• Interpret basic site layouts, drawings, and horticultural specifications to guide site preparation.

Groundskeeping & Plant Care

• Oversee routine lawn mowing, hedge trimming, tree pruning, bed weeding, and soil fertilization schedules.

• Monitor plant health continuously, diagnosing pest infestations, plant blights, and soil nutrient deficiencies.

• Apply safe pest control measures and organic soil treatments in compliance with environmental safety regulations.

• Maintain micro-irrigation lines, sprinklers, and drip watering networks, identifying and repairing leaks promptly.

Equipment Handling & Records

• Operate and service manual tools, mowers, trimmers, and motorized lawn machinery safely.

• Clean, sanitize, and store all gardening equipment and chemical supplies in designated tool sheds.

• Track inventory records for landscaping consumables, plant nurseries, maintenance schedules, and site conditions.

Candidate Profile

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Landscaping, Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or Grounds Management.

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of active experience in commercial landscaping, groundskeeping, nursery management, or institutional garden maintenance.

• Technical Skills: Sound understanding of plant propagation, soil preparation, pest management, and drip irrigation systems.

• Design Capability: Practical ability to create basic planting layouts and interpret landscape sketches.

Skills & Competencies

• Environmental Expertise: Understanding of heat-tolerant flora, soil salinity adjustments, and efficient water management techniques.

• Physical Fitness: Capability to work outdoors in hot climate conditions and execute heavy manual landscaping tasks.

• Safety Awareness: Proficiency in operating power equipment safely and handling agricultural chemicals responsibly.
