Job Description

Role Overview

You will be at the heart of our computing and IT department, delivering engaging lectures, running hands-on practical sessions, and guiding students through complex technical concepts across programming, systems analysis, and emerging technologies. Your day-to-day responsibilities span lesson preparation, assignment marking, student mentoring, and active participation in research and curriculum development projects. This role is essential to maintaining a high standard of computing education and ensuring graduates are equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical, industry-ready skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions on topics such as software engineering, database management, network security, and web technologies, adapting materials to suit different learning levels.
  • Develop and continuously refine course outlines, practical exercises, project briefs, and examination papers that align with academic standards and evolving industry practices.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guiding students in research methodology, system design, and technical writing.
  • Conduct focused research in your area of specialisation, with the expectation of producing peer-reviewed publications and presenting findings at academic conferences.
  • Actively contribute to departmental curriculum reviews, quality assurance processes, and accreditation documentation to maintain programme relevance and compliance.
  • Provide academic advising and pastoral support to students, helping them navigate course choices, research directions, and career pathways.
  • Support the effective running of the department through involvement in exam moderation, timetabling, and student assessment appeals.
  • Engage with professional communities and industry stakeholders to build partnerships that enrich teaching content and create internship or placement opportunities for students.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university. Applications from candidates holding a relevant Master's degree and currently registered for a PhD will also be considered.
  • A minimum of three years of university-level teaching or research experience, with demonstrated competence in delivering computing-related curricula.
  • Evidence of research activity, such as published journal or conference papers, or a well-defined research plan that shows clear potential for scholarly contribution.
  • Strong practical knowledge of programming languages, development frameworks, and modern software tools used in teaching and research.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly to a diverse student body.
  • Membership in recognised professional or academic bodies, such as IEEE or ACM, is considered an added advantage.
