We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

You will step into a teaching role within a forward-thinking school network that is actively shaping the next generation of African innovators and leaders. Your days will be spent designing engaging lessons, nurturing a secure classroom atmosphere, and guiding students through both structured and creative learning experiences. This position matters because it directly supports the network’s larger mission of delivering a modern, world-class education that prepares young people to drive the continent’s future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and run daily learning activities that align with the school’s curriculum, schemes of work, and lesson plans, adjusting delivery to suit each student’s needs and interests.
  • Build and refresh schemes of work and lesson plans in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Manager to keep instruction current and effective.
  • Create and prepare a wide range of materials and resources that support both guided learning and imaginative play, while organising classroom and outdoor spaces to encourage creativity, motor skills, and safety.
  • Lead activities that foster physical, mental, and social growth, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
  • Observe and assess each child’s progress, then deliver clear written reports to the Principal, school leaders, and parents while keeping accurate records of development.
  • Establish and enforce positive behaviour expectations and classroom procedures, and supervise students during transitions, field trips, guest visits, and experiential projects.
  • Welcome students as they arrive, help them settle into the school environment, and support them with routines like dressing and choosing activities.
  • Support school operations by assisting with bus loading and unloading, attending professional training sessions, and completing any other tasks assigned by your Manager.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a valid TSC certificate and a relevant degree in Education.
  • Bring at least three years of teaching experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrate solid proficiency with everyday technology, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English, ensuring messages are understood by students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable, handling uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity with composure.
  • Take a proactive approach to problem-solving, identifying issues early and working through them thoroughly to find practical solutions.
  • Embrace the network’s culture, including a willingness to accept mutual vulnerability and a steady stream of constructive feedback as part of personal and professional growth.
  • Show genuine motivation to build your leadership skills and apply them to transforming the lives of African youth.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is an opportunity to belong to a network that is committed to developing leaders and innovators poised to shape the African Century. You will be part of a professional environment where feedback and mutual vulnerability are actively used as growth tools, and where your own leadership journey is taken seriously. If you are eager to challenge yourself and contribute to meaningful educational change, this role provides both the platform and the purpose to do so.
