We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

You will step into a teaching role where each day centres on creating a secure, stimulating classroom that helps young learners thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working within a forward-thinking network of schools, you will turn lesson plans into meaningful experiences that build curiosity, confidence, and foundational skills. Your efforts directly support the network’s larger mission of nurturing future innovators and leaders across Africa, making every interaction with a student part of a longer journey toward continental progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver daily lessons and learning activities that follow the school’s curriculum, using schemes of work and adapting content to suit different learning styles and abilities.
  • Develop, refresh, and improve schemes of work and lesson plans in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Manager so that teaching remains current, engaging, and aligned with learning goals.
  • Create and organise classroom materials and safe indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage imaginative play, exploration, and motor-skill development while minimising hazards.
  • Monitor each child’s academic and developmental progress through observation and formal assessment, then write clear reports for parents, the Principal, and other school leaders.
  • Establish and communicate clear rules and routines that keep the classroom respectful, orderly, and conducive to focused learning and positive social interaction.
  • Plan and supervise enrichment experiences such as class projects, field trips, and guest visits, guiding students to reflect and learn from real-world contexts.
  • Reinforce student wellbeing by greeting children as they arrive, supporting transitions, and supervising safety during activities and bus loading or unloading.
  • Communicate regularly with families and colleagues, and actively participate in professional learning, workshops, and curriculum reviews to sharpen your teaching practice.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration or certificate is required.
  • Relevant degree in Education or a related teaching field.
  • At least three years of hands-on teaching experience, ideally at the primary or early childhood level.
  • Comfortable using technology for instruction and administration, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator who can share information clearly with students, parents, and fellow educators.
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to handle shifting priorities, complex situations, and ambiguity without losing momentum.
  • Proactive problem-solver who spots challenges early and works through them thoroughly to find practical solutions.
  • Eager to embrace the organisation’s culture of mutual vulnerability and continuous feedback, and motivated to grow as a leader in service of African youth.

Why Join Us

This is not just another teaching post—it is a chance to contribute to a movement shaping the next generation of African thinkers and doers. You will be part of an innovative network that values creative teaching, collaborative growth, and ambitious leadership. Expect an environment where your development is taken seriously, where feedback flows openly, and where your daily work in the classroom connects to a continent-wide vision.
