Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the on-the-ground sales force for a community radio station serving the Nyanza region, turning local airtime into a sustainable revenue stream. Each week combines prospecting new business, visiting existing clients, and representing the station at community functions. Your work directly funds programming and supports the station's broader community development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively sell radio advertising slots and sponsored segments to businesses, institutions, and event organisers across the station's broadcast area.
  • Identify and pitch sponsorship packages to potential programme backers, matching their goals with the station's audience.
  • Represent the station at local events, markets, and public gatherings to raise awareness of its activities and draw in new listeners.
  • Develop and maintain lasting relationships with local traders, NGOs, schools, and community groups to secure repeat business and referrals.
  • Where applicable, sign up new members for the Girwa Foundation and Jenga Kesho programmes, explaining their benefits to community members.
  • Track daily and weekly sales activities, client feedback, and market observations in structured field reports for the station management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum KCSE certificate; a diploma in sales, marketing, or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally Swahili or local languages spoken in the Nyanza region.
  • Proven ability to work independently, organise your own schedule, and consistently hit sales targets.
  • Sound understanding of the local market, including the economic drivers and community dynamics of the Nyanza region.
  • A valid motorcycle riding licence is an added advantage, as much of the fieldwork will involve travel to client locations.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role comes with an attractive commission structure plus performance-based incentives, rewarding your ability to bring in new advertising and sponsorship revenue. You will have the autonomy to shape your own sales approach while making a tangible difference to a community-focused media outlet.
