Role Overview

This role places you at the centre of electrical engineering service delivery for county government facilities. You will be responsible for designing electrical and electronic systems for public buildings and construction projects, as well as ensuring the ongoing repair, maintenance, and reliability of existing installations. Your work ensures that offices, workshops, and other government premises operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to public services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and electronic systems for new county government buildings, renovations, and construction works, producing clear technical drawings, specifications, and load calculations.
  • Carry out periodic inspections of electrical installations in offices, workshops, and other government facilities to identify faults, safety risks, and compliance gaps.
  • Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for electrical and electronic equipment, including lighting, power distribution, switchgear, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults promptly to restore services and minimise downtime in critical government operations.
  • Supervise and monitor the work of contractors and technicians on site to ensure designs are implemented correctly and in line with national standards and relevant regulations.
  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, and material estimates to support budgeting, procurement, and project planning.
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with the current wiring regulations, safety codes, and county government policies.
  • Provide technical advice to facility managers and other departments on energy efficiency, electrical safety, and system upgrades.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent and relevant qualification recognised by a reputable institution of higher learning.
  • Registration as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB).
  • A certificate in computer application skills, including proficiency in engineering design software, spreadsheets, and word processing packages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical engineering principles, building services design, and maintenance practices typically acquired through academic training and practical placements.
  • Familiarity with Kenyan electrical codes, standards, and public procurement procedures relevant to government engineering works.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Meets all the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, including leadership, integrity, and ethical conduct.
